Derek Fresquez and Cuttin the Chord
|
About:
This Sacramento based band, fronted by Derek Fresquez, plays contemporary, guitar driven blues, with gritty, soulful vocals delivered with more "feel" than you’d ever expect! Now in his thirties, Derek has studied the blues since age 14 when he got his first guitar. Some of his biggest influences are Smokin Joe Kubek, Robert Cray, and of course Stevie Ray Vaughan. You can expect to hear bits of Daniel Castro in his playing, as Derek has followed Daniel's career and studied his playing style since he was a teen. Derek feels everything he plays, allowing the audience to get a glimpse deep into his soul. From searing rockin' blues guitar, to those slow gut wrenching blues tunes, Derek carefully chooses guitar licks and effects from his arsenal, while laying down vocals oozing with feel. Derek provides an authentic performance to watch, music for his audience to feel deep down inside, and of course, his band of seasoned musicians lays down plenty of groove for the dancers! The bands name "Cuttin the Chord" is Derek's way of honoring his family band "Rumpshaker" where it all started. Derek gives a very special thanks to his Dad, Mike Fresquez for all he has taught him and to his brother Eric Fresquez for the many musical experiences they shared growing up. Güero
|
About:
Flowing like a river out of the Sierra Nevada foothills into Sacramento, CA, indie rock outfit Güero has grown into a diverse musical act that does not neatly fit into any musical genre. Starting as whimsical ideas and melodies in the mind of vocals/guitarist Rik Krull, the band grew into its current sound with the addition of Russell Volksen on Bass, Mike Ruiz on Drums, and finally Shea Ritchie on Keyboards. It soon became clear their chemistry was noticeable and their time together organically resulted in new levels of collaboration and creativity. Their sound is a melodic mix of punctual bass and keyboards, pulsating drums, and woodsy guitars, with beautiful, reverb-laden vocals coalesced into striking pop songs and ballads. Their music has an openness that is result of lengthy jamming and experimentation driven between other’s emanating energy and rhythm. Rowan McGuire

About:
Rowan McGuire is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter whose music deals predominantly with his experiences living in his native Northern California. His songs offer themes of love, loss, acceptance, loneliness, and transition. With these songs, he paves his own road— a road recognized by all who've traveled it with him for its grit and familiar, yet innovative, turns. Every word conveys depth and resonance, securing a spot in each individual listener’s complex life. Recently, McGuire has begun to explore new sonic possibilities. His upcoming releases track a gradual departure from the initial alternative folk mindset that he adopted when he first started seriously writing and performing his original music. Instead, McGuire has turned to influences such as Sturgill Simpson, Jenny Lewis, Waylon Jennings, Phoebe Bridgers, Bruce Springsteen, and Faye Webster in an attempt to bridge the gaps among folk, rock, country, and pop music. Forged during his travels between a flammable farmhouse in San Luis Obispo County, a high rise in San Francisco, and his home studio in Davis, CA, McGuire’s sound actively calls to mind images from his travels and the subsequent feelings they engendered in him. Currently, McGuire performs live with a talented group of musicians throughout Northern California. He spends his time writing, recording, and performing music that he plans to release to the public soon. Stay tuned.
